Avaliação da efetividade da acupuntura, ozonioterapia e do laser de baixa intensidade no tratamento da disfunção temporomandibular: um ensaio clínico randomizado

Abstract

Temporomandibular disorders (TMDs) are the most common conditions of chronic orofacial pain and, due to their multifactorial etiology, have numerous treatment options. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of acupuncture, ozone therapy and laser therapy in treating patients with temporomandibular dysfunction through a randomized controlled trial. Twelve graduate students or professors from the University of Passo Fundo who met the criteria for TMD presence were selected and then randomly divided into 3 groups (n = 4): G1: laser therapy, G2: acupuncture, and G3: ozone therapy. . The treatment protocols were applied distinctly in the respective groups in six sessions. Diagnostic questionnaires for TMD (RDC / TMD), Quality of Life (OHIP-14), Pain Scale (VAS) and Stress Self Perception (EADS-21) and maximum mouth opening were applied to all patients. After the treatments, a 30-day reassessment was performed. The data obtained were tabulated and statistically analyzed using the Wilcoxon tests for comparison between groups and the Kruskal-Wallis test for analysis in each group over time (p≤0.05). The results indicated that no treatment was more effective than the other, but when analyzed in general, all treatments decreased pain and improved maximum mouth opening. Quality of life in relation to the pain variable was effective when compared before and after the interventions. It was possible to conclude that all treatments were effective in the treatment of temporomandicular dysfunction.
