Flores da Cunha : relação política administrativa com Passo Fundo e Região Norte do RS, nas páginas de O Nacional (1930-1937)

Abstract

The aim of this work is to analyse the Flores da Cunha government and its political and administrative relationship with the city of Passo Fundo and the North of Rio Grande do Sul, from 1930-1937, when Flores da Cunha ruled the State of Rio Grande do Sul, firstly as federal intervenor appointed by the chief of Getúlio Vargas s Provisory Government and later elected as governor by the Constituent Assembly in 1934. The investigation starts from the rupture of the coffee with milk politics, which was predominant during the Old Republic (1889-1930). Starting from such a political context, attempts were made in order to understand the new political context established in the country and the rise of politicians from Rio Grande do Sul within the Federal Government, as well as the reflections the new political order would have both in the regional and national context, as Flores da Cunha, the main character of this study, would become Getúlio Vargas s faithful squire, given his outstanding participation in the 1930 armed movement and the 1932 Constitutional Revolution. The local press was considered as the primary source of research of this dissertation, particularly the aged pages of the O Nacional newspaper, from Passo Fundo, along with a bibliographical review on the issue
